AZIENDA AGRICOLA PARADISONE - COLLE DEGLI ANGELI

Tuscany

WINEMAKER: FEDERICO DONINI

The wines of Colle degli Angeli were first crafted for sharing with family and friends.  They are meant to be enjoyed in the spirit of companionship and conviviality, and express years of passionate research and hard work – pages in the story of the house of Attilio Locati, founder of Paradisone.
The shared enjoyment of wine is part of living life as fully as possible. It magically captures time, present, past and future; for as we wrote elsewhere, tasting magnifies present sensations, compares them to those of previous tastings, imagines the wine’s future development.  Our past plays a major role in the art of fine wine: the heritage of tradition and terroir, essential in creating wines that speak for a given territory; and our own past, the values and ideals of youth, the pleasures of childhood with their sensory intensity…  The joys of tasting are not only physical but spiritual: the closeness to nature we feel when making or tasting wine allows us to reach total well-being and harmony.

LEUTA - AZIENDA AGRICOLA LAGARINI

Tuscany

WINEMAKER: DENIS ZENI

Azienda Agricola Leuta was founded in 2000 by Denis Zeni and Enzo Berlanda.
Long-time business partners and school friends from the Lagarina valley in Trentino, the two young men, recognizing both the powerful attraction of nature and the perverse fascination of the city, decided to make a radical change and leave their respective jobs in the world of finance for the challenge of agriculture.
For too long, they realized, they had been dreaming and desiring a different life; their fathers had cultivated tobacco and grapes in the Trentino area and they wanted to live the same way.
In 2000, they purchased 21,5 hectares (approximately 60 acres) of land in Tuscany near Cortona, not far from Lake Trasimeno and Montepulciano. This land is now the Leuta Estate. Positioned at 310 meters above sea-level, the land is perfect for grape-growing, as soil studies clearly indicate.
The "Tuscany Project," as the two men called this initiative at the beginning, was incorporated in 2004 as Lagarini s.s. di Zeni Denis & C. s.s. and the first small-scale vintage for the Vin Santo Leuta was crafted. During the same year a small property was bought in Trentino together with their friend Giulio De Vescovi, owner of the Azienda Agricola De Vescovi-Ulzbach.

VILLA RAIANO

Campania

WINEMAKER: SEBASTAIANO FORTUNATO

Irpinia is our land, where we were born and where we are living our lives, as well as we hope our children will do. It is a small, hilly and mountainous area in South Italy, in the heart of Southern Apennines. Just in this place, in 1996, we decided to establish Villa Raiano. The winery was constituted, in a very first time, in the old offices of the family’s main firm, the olive oil company, in the village of Raiano, town of Serino.
In 2009 our dream came true with a new winery, built on the top of a hill, set in vineyards and chestnut woods, overlooking the Valley of river Sabato in the town of San Michele di Serino, just few miles far from its original place.
The cellar was projected and built according to the most advanced technologic and architectural criteria, with a sole purpose: the production of wine from only native grapes: Greco, Fiano and Aglianico, in different wine-making styles.

Campania

Christ’s cry … the tears shed for a Paradise land laying on Men’s earth. The legend and history of the wine produced by the Sorrentino company intertwine to form a sublime and fascinating story in which the sacred and the profane mix and give life to a magical tale of flavor and faith.
A trail filled with aromas and beliefs, all played around a new Nectar of the Gods.
Lucifer, the angel of Evil, expelled from Heaven, managed to steal a strip of it and bring it with him on Earth, so forming the Gulf of Naples. Pained by this loss, Jesus Christ began to cry, shedding tears upon Mount Vesuvius, and from these sweet tears blossomed the grapevines and grapes of a heavenly taste: Lacryma Christi.

CANTINE MIALI

Apulia

WINEMAKER: FRANCESCO MIALI

"It’s 1886, when our great-grandfather, Elvino Miali, founded our Winery in Martina Franca (Puglia), producing wines from the grapes collected in our valley: the Valle d’Itria. It is when our STORY began; a story made of passion, love for our land and an “artisan-care” in all we do that is going on for over 130 years. Our company has ever been family-run since its foundation. The family is integral part of the company and the company is integral part of the family.

When we satrted to move our steps into the winery, our dad, pointing to our logo, said: “Sons, remember that this logo is not just the brand of our Company but is also the name of our Family!”.

TENUTA MONTE ILICE

Sicily

WINEMAKER: MARIA CARELLA

Tenuta Monte Ilice is located in Sicily, Etna Park, 750 meters above sea level, on the steep and wild side of Monte Ilice, a crater which has always been dedicated to heroic viticulture and a place of poetic beauty.
Etna is the tallest active volcano in Europe and it was formed during the Quaternary Period, about 570,000 years ago. During these thousands of years, many craters formed on its sides from the main volcanic conduit. One of these lateral craters is Mount Ilice. Mount Ilice is on Etna’s Southeast side and has probably been the most active among all of Etna’s lateral craters. The famous eruption that occurred around 1030 A.C. was significant; the crater produced a lava flow of about 10 Kilometers which destroyed quite a few villages in its path and ended up in the sea, near Stazzo.
Millenary lava flows act as carpeting for our vineyards, supplying an incredible amount of minerals. The whole vineyard is facing eastward, overlooking the sea. This favorable position, in addition to the elevation of 750m above sea level, creates a strong thermal excursion. During the day, the vineyards are completely exposed Sicily’s hot sun; in the evening, because of the high altitude, the temperatures drastically go down by 15-20 °C. This great thermal excursion causes an increase in sugar content, a decrease in acidity, an enhanced phenolic composition of grapes with a high concentration of aromatic substances in the peel – which guarantees a final product with a more intense and elegant bouquet, in addition to the presence of fixed acids in the pulp, which are necessary for proper preservation of wine.
All our vineyards are located on small terraces, where automatized labor is not possible, therefor all production stages are done strictly by hand. The composition and state of dissolution of eruptive material gives way to sandy volcanic terrain made of small pumice rocks called “ripiddu”, with high drainage capacity, which in turn keeps water from stagnating at the root of the vines. Another characteristic of Etna is that this “good giant” erupts 2 to 3 times a year. The volcanic sand produced at each eruption, thanks to the wind, lands on the areas all around the volcano, continuously enriching and altering the terrain composition. Our philosophy is to preserve our extraordinary terroir as much as possible.

AZ. AGR. DONNA DI COPPE (Organic)

AZIENDA AGRICOLA COSTADORIA

Sardinia

THOMAS SCHIRRU

Tenute Costadoria came to life in the town of Valledoria, on the coast that once was dominated by the noble Doria family in the twelfth century and which the company took its name from. Here, in the Gulf of Asinara, we have founded our farm and today, by using the traditional Sardinian winemaking process, we always try to exploit and enhance the peculiar orogenetic and territorial conformation of the area adjacent to the sea.
The winery spreads over an area of about 200 hectares, which is divided into two distinct properties close to each other, that are dedicated partly to vineyards and partly to artichoke trees and other cultivations.
